Adelaide defender Najwa Allen’s side is refusing to take Carlton lightly, despite the Blues only recording one win from four matches this season.

The Crows and the Blues have developed a strong rivalry after the two sides faced off in the 2019 Grand Final, which led to Adelaide claiming a second Premiership.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Allen, who is part of the Crows’ strong defensive unit, said her team was proud to have claimed four straight wins this season but wouldn’t become complacent.

“I think we’re aware that kind of makes them a little bit more dangerous, the fact they haven’t had as strong of a start to the season,” Allen said.

“They’re going to come out firing for us.

“I think we’re aware that kind of makes them a little bit more dangerous.

“I always personally think that when you start to get ahead of yourself, you’re asking for a loss.

“We are happy with the start we’ve had to the season but I always think, ‘Don’t jinx yourself’.”

The Crows will be without skipper Chelsea Randall this weekend after she re-injured her right hamstring in the Round Four win against Melbourne.

Allen said it was disappointing to have Randall out but her positive attitude and voice from the sidelines would help spur the side on.

“It’s always better when you have Chelsea Randall on the field,” Allen said.

“I mean the opposition won’t say that, but for us it’s always better for us to have her on the field.

“Chelsea Randall is one of the most selfless, courageous leaders that you could come across.

“I was a bit worried about where she’s at and straight away she’s like, ‘Don’t worry about that, I have complete faith in everyone to do the job with or without me’.

“Straight away she goes into that role of, ‘How can I help’ in a non-playing capacity.

“It’s just about everyone stepping up in those big moments which is what she continuously does herself.”

Adelaide is set to take on Carlton at Ikon Park, Victoria, on Sunday at 2.40pm (ACDT).
