Adelaide Senior Coach Matthew Nicks said his side’s focus has been on polishing up its skills ahead of the Round Five clash against Richmond.

The Crows take on the Tigers at Adelaide Oval on Saturday afternoon and will be looking to bounce back after a heartbreaking loss to Essendon last weekend.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Nicks said players had been training hard this week to improve the way they used the ball both by hand and foot.

Nicks said turnovers cost the Crows against the Bombers and the same mistakes could not be made against the Tigers.

“We often talk about moments, the game is not necessarily about one moment,” Nicks said.

“There were about another 10 or 15 occasions where we had an opportunity to score and didn’t complete the play, we lacked that polish, especially in our front half.

“Unfortunately that was consistent across the game (against Essendon) we turned that ball over far too easily in our front half.

“It’s our big work on - that connection between midfielders and forwards.

“We did a fair bit of work around some areas that we got wrong last week and we looked to work on those today.”

Nicks said it was important the team learnt from mistakes made to help it get better.

“We are playing professional football at the elite level so there’s a certain expectation,” Nicks said.

“But there’s a connection piece in this and that takes time of playing games.

“We are learning so much in games of footy at the moment.

“That's frustrating for everyone at the moment, even for us because we want to be winning… We’ve been a kick away twice this year where we haven’t got the job done.

“That’s our challenge, we’ll continue to build connection and continue to work on our game.”

Adelaide plays Richmond at Adelaide Oval on Saturday, with the first bounce at 4.05pm.
