Tasmanian draftee Chayce Jones has finished 2019 with a bang, recording a career-high 18 disposals and two goals against the Western Bulldogs on Sunday.

The 19-year-old played eight games in his first season, none more influential than the Round 23 match in Ballarat.

But despite the breakout performance, Jones was left disappointed at the end of the day.

“It was tough,” Jones told AFC Media.

“It’s great to play alright but it’s bitter-sweet when you lose the game.

“We battled hard and fought all day, but in the end, it wasn’t what we wanted.”

With his first AFL year now finished, Jones will turn his attention to the SANFL finals.

ADELAIDE NOMINEES: Three Crows in race for MVP

Looking back on the senior season, the No. 9 draft pick said it was amazing to be in the AFL system.

“I learnt so much this year,” Jones said.

“The group around you is unreal, they help you through everything.

“The highs, the lows, whether you’ve been dropped, played a good game… it was amazing.”

Jones has also taken the chance to soak up knowledge from veteran players, including the Club’s outgoing No. 26, Richard Douglas.

“(I’ve been) a sponge off him, just learning and talking as much as I can” he said.

The Crows’ SANFL side will take on the Port Adelaide Magpies in a qualifying final on Saturday night at Adelaide Oval.

The winner will face Glenelg in the second semi final and the loser will take on the winner of the Sturt-Norwood elimination final on Saturday afternoon.
