Brett Turner’s journey from managing his father’s solar company to being drafted to the AFL by Adelaide has been a whirlwind.

To help fans get to know him better, here are 10 little-known facts about the midfielder.

1. Turner only started playing football competitively when he was 14.

2. His first sport was basketball and he played state hoops for Sturt Sabres.

3. Turner was an Australian junior BMX champion as an eight-year-old.

4. He was a massive Crows fan growing up and was not only in the crowd for Mark Ricciuto’s final AFL game, but received a high-five from the former skipper after the match.

5. His favourite Adelaide player growing up was Richard Douglas and he got to play against the 246-gamer in the SANFL.

6. He has a tight-knit family which includes his dad, Andy, mum, Jenny, older brother Ash, younger brother, Jase, 16, and younger sister, Ellie, 11.

7. Turner grew up in Adelaide’s south and went to Flagstaff Hill Primary School. He then went to Blackwood High School - the same one as Crows Senior Coach Matthew Nicks.

8. Turner was convinced to make the switch from basketball to footy by former West Adelaide coach Andy Collins who he met during a school tour of the Bloods’ clubrooms when he was 16.

9. His favourite place to holiday in Australia is the Gold Coast but overseas, his top place to visit overseas is Dublin, Ireland.

10. He doesn’t currently have any pets but growing up Turner had a Cockatiel.
