Dependable Adelaide AFLW defender Chelsea Biddell has credited her team’s composure in Adelaide’s thrilling win over Collingwood on Sunday.

The Crows moved up to fifth spot on the ladder with the 2.9 (21) to 2.4 (16) triumph at Victoria Park.

Drafted as a key forward in 2019, Biddell moved to the backline in Season Six, solidifying herself as one of Adelaide’s most reliable defenders.

Speaking to the media on Monday, Biddell said the backline stood up well when it mattered in the dying moments of the game.

“It was pretty nerve-wrecking, obviously the ball living in our defensive 50 is not where we want it,” Biddell said.

“Internally I was a bit nervous, but I think it’s just about that composure.

“Composure is a big thing that we talk about in our backline, so not rushing it, thinking through what we are doing is really important especially when the game is that close.

“We have a good group back there and I think we have been able to hold up really well.”

Biddell was full of praise for teammate Maddi Newman, who had a standout game, finishing with 17 disposals, six tackles and a goal.

“Maddi has been working so hard and been training really well so it was good to see her get some reward,” Biddell said.

“She’s been playing well for this entire season so it’s good to see her take her game to the next level, especially considering how hard she has worked.”

Biddell has also had an impressive season so far, averaging 15.5 disposals per game.

“Confidence is probably the biggest factor,” Biddell said.

“By getting in the team and staying in the team you are sort of able to build that confidence and play the way you want to play.”

The Crows take on GWS at Unley Oval this Sunday, before the historic first AFLW Showdown at Adelaide Oval the following Friday night.

“It’s exciting, the first ever Showdown” said Biddell.

“Showdowns are always really exciting in the men’s competition, and I think in the women’s space it will be very similar.

“I’m definitely looking forward to it, but we will take it one game at a time and look at GWS first.”
