Adelaide AFLW Senior Coach Matthew Clarke says his side is ready to build on the rivalry when it takes on Brisbane in the preliminary final on Friday night.

The Crows and the Lions’ strong rivalry started in the inaugural AFLW Season when the two teams faced off in the Grand Final, with Adelaide taking the spoils.

Brisbane then got one back on the Crows when it won Season Five’s flag, before Adelaide triumphed in the rematch in Round One, Season Six.

The Lions, however, beat the Crows during this campaign’s minor round, leaving Adelaide as the team eyeing redemption.

Speaking to the media on Thursday before the team flew to the Gold Coast, Clarke said the teams had built something special.

“We are still very young in terms of it being just the seventh season but already there’s these rivalries developing and that’s a massive part of football,” Clarke said.

“It’s part of what draws people to the game. There’s a bit of history between these two teams and we get a chance to go up against each other and I’m sure both groups will be relishing the opportunity.

“We get to go up to Queensland and obviously we played them (Brisbane) recently and didn’t get the outcome that day, but we are in a pretty good spot, so we’ll see how we go.”

Despite the loss to the Lions in Round Eight, Clarke was confident his side would be up to the challenge.

“I’ve got great belief in the group,” Clarke said.

“I’ve seen them do amazing things, I’ve seen them jell together as a team this season.

“Some of the young players who have come in are really growing and sometimes you need these challenges to grow even further.”

Adelaide takes on Brisbane at Metricon Stadium on Friday at 6.40pm (7.10PM ACDT).

Crows players will wear black armbands and pink shoe laces to pay respect to former teammate and 2017 Premiership player Heather Anderson who passed away suddenly earlier this week.

The final team will be announced on Thursday at 5pm.
