https://weflyas.one/4hYqaC7Adelaide recruit Grace Egan spoke to the media on Tuesday following her first game as a Crow in our Round One clash against Sydney at Unley Oval.

The forward spoke about what it’s like living with Skipper Ebony Marinoff, how she’s adapted to life as a Crow, kicking her first goal in the tri colours, and how the team will re-group ahead of this week’s game against Carlton.

Read what she had to say.

You’ve had a bit of time to reflect on the weekend’s game. Have you worked out what slipped away in that final quarter?

“As a team, we had spoken about just lacking a little bit of urgency,” Egan said.

“I feel like Sydney really had that intent and contest in that last quarter, and we couldn't match them.

“That's probably where it slipped away for us.”

It didn't take long for you to kick your first goal.

“It didn't take long at all.

“I feel like I was manifesting that for a little bit.

“I was pretty happy once I heard Rein Me In (her goal song) over the speakers and got that first goal out of the way. I was pretty comfortable after that.”

Was it a pretty straightforward goal song choice?

“I just thought I might as well pick something that's new and fresh.

“Everyone seems to go with the old-school singalongs and, with a lot of young crowds coming to our games now, I thought Rein Me In by Olivia Dean was a good choice. Everyone should know the words.”

You’ve watched Ebony (Marinoff) from afar for ages, but you've lived with her now and now and got her as a Captain, can you talk us through her leadership qualities?

“What you see with Ebony is exactly what you get, and I've found Ebony has been a great role model for me in the last seven months.

“She is the best player for a reason. The way she goes about her business, the way she leads, the way she trains, she is amazing.

“And not only is she a great leader, she just takes you under her wing. She wants the team to have success, and when you hear that in a leader's voice, then it obviously drives you as a player and a person.

“She’s been amazing, amazing for me as well.”

Is she the same kind of character you were expecting? We see how bubbly and confident and loud she can be. Is she the same at home?

“Yeah, she's the exact same at home. I didn't know what to expect.

“From the outside, you just know Ebony is a very high performer and very talented athlete, and then being able to go behind closed doors, I know exactly why she is the best in the comp.

“The way she preps, the way she trains, the way she just goes about her business, she's great.

“If anything, I learnt she’s a great cook, that's probably where her outlet is at home.

“I think I've become a better person and player because of Ebony.”

You were among quite a few debutants. What did you make of Chloe Bown's first performance? Not bad for a debut.

“I feel like it's the start of Chloe Bown.

“She's an absolute jet, I feel like I've tried to take her under my wing a little bit in the pre-season as well, with an older sister vibe.

“To go out there and perform like that, she’s just a star.

“She makes it look very easy, kicking on her left and her right. You don't know which one is actually her preferred, but I'm very excited to see how she goes this season, and maybe a Rising star in there, I can picture for her.”

What do you make of Carlton? They were quite competitive against the Saints.

“Carlton's a great team. They're a very contested team. They've got some great players, great young players, (but) I feel like we'll be able to match them, if not be better.

“We've got a lot of experience, a lot of depth in our program now, we haven't played Carlton in a few years, so for the Adelaide Crows, I feel it’s exciting because they have something to prove having not played them for a while.

“They’re a great team, but we'll be able to match that.”
