Talented singer-songwriter and avid Crows fan Guy Sebastian made history earlier this year when he represented Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time.

Nearly 200 million people worldwide tuned into the 60th Eurovision and saw Guy perform the single, Tonight Again. The X Factor judge proved a global hit, finishing fifth overall.

It was a busy 12 months for the former Australian Idol winner, who also toured nationally with his Madness show. Crows Eddie Betts, Charlie Cameron and Cam Ellis-Yolmen were in the crowd when Guy performed in his home town of Adelaide. Guy also recently released new a single, Black and Blue.

Aussie cricket coach Darren Lehmann also did the country proud, guiding the national team to the ICC Cricket World Cup title. Australia beat New Zealand at the MCG in March to claim the World Cup. Lehmann also won the trophy as a player in 2003.

South Aussie cyclists Jack Bobridge and Annette and Alex Edmondson starred on the global stage.

Bobridge kicked off the year by winning Stage One of the Tour Down Under in his home state and finished off by claiming the team pursuit UCI World Cup in New Zealand. The Aussie team, which also included Alex Edmondson, broke the national record in the process. It was another successful year for Alex’s older sister, Annette, who won gold medals in both the Omnium and Team Pursuit at the 2015 Track World Championships in France. Nettie also recently won silver in the omnium at the UCI Track World Cup in Cambridge, New Zealand, and has her sights set on bettering her bronze medal finish in London at the Rio Olympics next year.

A couple of Aussie sporting icons announced their retirement plans in 2015.

Adelaide’s No.1 ticket holder and former world No.1 Lleyton Hewitt will call time on a decorated playing tennis career after the 2016 Australian Open. ‘Rusty’ has been appointed as captain of Australia’s Davis Cup team, following in the footsteps of another Crows Ambassador, John Fitzgerald OAM. Lleyton showed his trademark fighting spirit in July, partnering Sam Groth to win the Davis Cup quarter-finals doubles rubber against Kazakhstan in Darwin.

Australia's greatest ever Paralympian, Matt Cowdrey OAM, retired from swimming in February. Matt holds the record for the most gold medals (13) and total medals (23) at the Paralympics by an Australian. He also holds five world records, five Paralympic records and nine short-course world records as well as 21 medals at three world championships, including 16 gold.

While a couple of SA icons called it quits, inaugural Crows coach Graham Cornes OAM made a comeback! Sixteen years after last leading the Croweaters into state-of-origin battle, Cornes coached SA in its clash with WA.

After overcoming a serious shoulder injury, Aussie basketballer Patty Mills helped reigning NBA Champions, the San Antonio Spurs, back to the Playoffs. The Spurs were knocked out in heartbreaking fashion in round one, going down to the LA Clippers by two points in game seven. With the 2015-16 NBA season in full swing, the Boomers star had a season-high 22 points, three rebounds and three assists in Spurs’ win over the LA Lakers on the weekend.

V8 driver Tim Slade overcame heat exhaustion to claim a podium finish at the Castrol EDGE Gold Coast 600, finishing third in Race 31 of the Supercars Championship. Former BMX World Champion and Olympic silver medallist Sam Willoughby came third in the UCI World Cup in Sweden and is eyeing gold in Rio.

Actor and director DamonGameau took over the big and small screens with his popular documentary, That Sugar Film. The highest grossingAustralian cinema documentary of all time, ThatSugar Film was released worldwide and recently won an AACTA award for bestfeature-length documentary. Another talented Aussie artist, Robyn Archer AO, was named as the inaugural Chair of The NationalInstitute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA) Master of Fine Arts in CulturalLeadership. 

Singer Beccy Cole received six 2016 Golden Guitar nominations - the annual Country Music Association of Australia awards. It has been a big year for Cole, who also released a new book and the album Sweet Rebecca. Mark Holden was inducted into SA Music Hall of Fame for his contribution to the industry, while performer Wes Carr completed a sold out national tour, Here Comes The Sun and released an album, People of Peace.

Celebrity chef Adam Liaw got mouths watering with his new cookbook, Asian Cookery School, and continued to host the popular television series Destination Flavour. Today Show co-host Lisa Wilkinson was named as editor-at-large of online news aggregator and blog HuffPost Australia.

Hon Kate Ellis MP and media personality David Penberthy welcomed a new addition to their family, with Kate giving birth to baby boy, Samuel, in April.
