Adelaide defender Mitch Hinge is set to miss Saturday's game against Carlton after the AFL tribunal upheld his one-game ban for striking.

Hinge was charged with striking Fremantle's Andrew Brayshaw in the second quarter of Friday night's game against the Dockers at Optus Stadium.

The Match Review Officer graded it intentional conduct with high contact and low impact.

Hinge and his legal counsel, Tom Duggan KC and Sam McDonough, argued the defender did not intend to strike Brayshaw and the incident should be graded as careless rather than intentional.
