Adelaide forward Taylor Walker has fallen victim to another stitch-up, this time at the hands of the AFL’s Football Record.
Speaking to Roo, Ditts and Loz on Triple M Adelaide Breakfast, Walker said he was reading the magazine before Sunday’s match, and saw himself feature in the Kids Zone’s spot the difference section.
Looking closely at the photos, the Crows’ all-time leading goal-kicker was shocked to find what had been done to one of his body parts.
“I was flicking through the Footy Record pre-game, and I got to the end and there’s a kids zone with a spot the difference, and I feature,” Walker said.
“I’m thinking, you beauty, I never usually feature in these, so I’m looking at it and they haven’t changed my fingers, the number on my back is the same, and I look up towards my head and see it.
“One of my ears has been made a lot bigger than it usually is, and Fog said maybe it’s just been made smaller, so he can get stuffed and so can the AFL for putting this in the Record.”
The stitch-up did not end with Walker’s discovery of the Record.
When he went to show his wife Ellie what had happened to his ears, she had already been told, as one of his assistant coaches made it his mission to show as many people as possible.
“So I get home and go to show my wife, and I said I’ll show you the funniest thing I’ve seen, and she said ‘it’s not the Footy Record is it?” Walker said.
“She said I spoke to VB (Nathan van Berlo), and he’d shown her, and then I found out VB had gone over to Roo who was doing Fox and showed him as well.
“He was going around showing everyone by the sounds of it.”
Walker was managed for the Crows’ 66-point win against the Eagles on Sunday afternoon.
He explained the process behind the decision, and when he knew would not be playing.
“I probably didn’t know (I wasn’t playing) until after Captain’s Run, the morning of the game, because we wanted to give ourselves every opportunity up until the match to make the decision,” Walker said.
“It was looking more likely than unlikely I was going to have a rest, but there are lots of things we factor in, and things the coaches factor in that have nothing to do with me.
“We gave ourselves every opportunity up until the game, and I was able to sit back and watch the boys play some good footy, particularly in the second half.”
Walker will be eyeing a return for the Crows’ match against Sydney at the SCG on Saturday night.
The game will begin a tough three-week stretch for the Club, leading into the bye.
“We’ve got a big three weeks coming up, and we know that with Sydney up there, Brisbane back here and Hawthorn and Tassie heading into the bye,” Walker said.
“We’re looking forward to a big challenge over the next three weeks, where hopefully we can maintain that good form, and tweak a few areas we are not quite on the ball with at the moment.”
Adelaide faces Sydney at the SCG this Saturday night, with the first bounce at 7.05pm (ACST).
