Isaac Cumming didn’t need a lot of time at his new football club to realise 2025 had the potential to be a special year.
Cumming joined the Crows as an unrestricted free agent during the 2024 Trade Period after playing 81 games for GWS and he was quickly impressed with what he saw at West Lakes.
Although a hamstring injury sustained before Christmas kept him out of Adelaide’s trial match against Port Adelaide in Mount Barker in February, it was then that Cumming knew the Crows had the makings to be a contender in 2025.
“My earliest (memory) was actually during the praccy match against Port Adelaide at Mount Barker, I didn’t play in that game, I was still coming back from my hammy,” Cumming said.
“But I remember watching it and I said to my old man on the way home ‘I think we are going to be really good’.
“Some of the boys put on an absolute clinic and that was a moment for me where I was like ‘yep, we’re going to be alright’.
“This group has been building something really special here for the past three or four years, and I think regardless if I got here this year or not, I think this group would’ve done something really special, and the fact that I’m here for it, I’m super grateful for.”
Now, seven months on, Cumming has not only cemented himself as a consistent cog in the Crows’ team but is preparing to line-up in a semi-final clash against Hawthorn at Adelaide Oval on Friday night.
This marks the utility’s third AFL finals series, having featured in the Giants’ campaigns during 2023 and 2024.
Cumming has also been joined by fellow former Giant James Peatling in his first finals at the Crows, with the pair both crossing over to West Lakes at the end of last year.
Despite labelling the inaugural season with Adelaide as “super special”, Cumming said the team still had unfinished business, and were not satisfied with just a finals appearance.
“We often talk about how crazy this first year has been for us,” Cumming said.
“We both know and everyone is well aware that even though we finished top of the ladder, and that's really nice, but there’s something bigger that we want to achieve."
The Crows face the Hawks in a do-or-die semi-final at Adelaide Oval this Friday, with the first bounce at 7.10pm.
The semi-final clash is sold out, but the Club is giving fans a chance to win two tickets to the game by simply signing up to watch Crows Live Extra here.
