Adelaide remains committed to recruiting two-time premiership Lion Callum Ah Chee.

Earlier this month, Ah Chee, a two-time Brisbane premiership player, informed Adelaide he wished to join the Crows in the trade period.

But the two clubs were unable to agree on terms before the 2025 Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period deadline on Wednesday night.

It now means Adelaide will look to select the 28-year-old at the pre-season draft next month.

Speaking post-deadline, Adelaide GM List Management Justin Reid said while it was disappointing, the club was committed to making Ah Chee a Crow.

“Both Cal, the Club, and his management are all committed to seeing this through,” Reid said.

“We have a plan, we are committed to Cal, Cal and his management are committed to us.

“We understand what that looks like, firstly it’s around the welfare and support of Cal and his family, so we’ll just take a deep breath and work through that.

“We put our best foot forward with what we think was a fair and reasonable deal…At the end of the day, the deal wasn’t done, and we are just going to have to take the long route now.”

The Crows did strike a deal with North Melbourne to bring Kangaroos forward Finnbar Maley to West Lakes.

The 22-year-old, who stands at 197cm, was traded along with Pick 64 in exchange for Adelaide’s Pick 57 this year and future fourth-round selection (2026).

Reid says the Club is in a really strong position moving forward with Maley, Indy Cotton, who it signed last month as a Category B Rookie, and its first round draft pick (No.16 as it stands) still in tow.

“It’s disappointing with regards to the Cal situation, (but) we are really deliberate in what we are doing and we still have a round one draft pick,” Reid said.

“We have all our draft suite for 2026, we have obviously brought Finnbar Manley in who will help with the new ruck rule, he’s got the ability to play forward and ruck and with five on the bench.

“We are really excited to bring him in and to see what he can do with his athleticism.

“As part of this period, Indy Cotton has been a big part of that as well.”

Adelaide will now turn its attention to the National Draft, which will be hosted across two nights on Wednesday November 19, and Thursday, November 20. The pre-season draft will follow on November 21.

“We took a deliberate approach this year to explore our options but avoid trading for the sake of trading,” Reid said.

“With continued growth, along with more exposure for our list, we have confidence in where we sit heading into 2026.”
