Adelaide will unleash three fresh faces against Collingwood on Saturday night, with a trio set to play their first game for the Club.
Forward/ruck Toby Murray has earned an AFL debut, while ruckman Lachlan McAndrew and forward Callum Ah Chee will make their club debuts against the Magpies at the MCG.
Murray signed with the Crows’ SANFL side ahead of the 2024 season, before landing on Adelaide’s AFL list in the Mid-Season Draft that same year.
Before coming across to the Crows, Murray played under-18s with the Murray Bushrangers, then with Collingwood’s VFL team in 2022, and the Wangaratta Rovers in the Ovens and Murray League in 2023.
Crows Executive General Manager Football Adam Kelly said Murray deserved his opportunity after all the hard work he had put in over the past two years.
“We have seen incredible development in Toby since he arrived at the Club as a SANFL Development listed player in 2024,” Kelly said.
“He has fully committed himself to making the most of the opportunities he has been given, fought back from injury adversity and earned the respect of all due to the way in which he has gone to work.
“Over the summer he has certainly taken his game to another level and evidenced his ability as a ruck option during the trial games. It has amounted to a well deserved selection for this Saturday night.”
McAndrew, a former Swan, will get a chance to don the Crows colours for the first time after he began training with the Club late in 2024.
The 210cm ruckman, who officially became a Crow via last year’s AFL’s pre-season Supplemental Selection Period, also lined up in both the Crows’ trial games.
In the Community Series match against Fremantle, the 25-year-old amassed a game-high 33 hit-outs and six tackles.
“It is terrific to see Lachie get his first opportunity in the tri-colours,” Kelly said.
“He has demonstrated his ability to get first hands on the ball in the ruck and is building a strong connection with our mids, whilst also showing how much of a competitor he is by getting after the contest and the opposition when the ball is on the ground.”
Ah Chee arrived at the Crows via the AFL Pre-Season Draft in November.
The two-time Lions premiership forward has overcome a low-grade right hamstring strain sustained during the AAMI AFL Origin match, and will be named in the Crows’ Round One team.
Kelly said the 28-year-old had been a welcomed addition to the Club and he would add plenty of experience to the team.
“From the moment Cal walked through the door he has impressed with a quiet confidence and composure that comes to the fore on and off the field,” Kelly said.
“It was described early as simple brilliance as a reference to his ability to execute the fundamentals of the game and of his role.
“In addition, Cal has been recognised for his contribution to the group as a leader.
“He was an important addition to our squad and we are really pleased that he is ready to go for Saturday night.”
The Crows face the Magpies at the MCG on Saturday, with the first bounce at 7.05pm (ACDT).
The match will be broadcast live on Fox Footy and Kayo, with a delayed start on Channel 7 Adelaide.
