Adelaide forward Caitlin Gould never imagined football would take her this far.

This weekend, Gould will celebrate her 75th AFLW game when the Crows face Geelong at Unley Oval, joining teammates Sarah Allan (100 games) and Niamh Kelly (75 matches) in reaching significant milestones.

Reflecting on her journey, the Premiership Crow admitted she's still surprised by how quickly it all happened.

"Just imagining what my life was like before footy, playing volleyball and getting brought up with different sports, I wouldn't have thought that I'd probably get here to be honest," Gould said.

"It's nice to be able to get the 75 games alongside Sarah (Allan), who's got her 100th game and Niamh Kelly's got her 75th this weekend too.

"It'll be nice to celebrate that with those two as well."

The Crows selected Gould with Pick No. 5 in the 2019 AFLW Draft, with the talented tall making her debut in Round One, 2020.

But long before establishing herself as a key figure in Adelaide's forward line, Gould was focused on a different sport altogether.

After years of playing volleyball, a friend's suggestion to try football set her on a path she never expected.

"I was playing volleyball for such a long time throughout my schooling, there wasn't much of a (career) pathway there," Gould said.

"One of my friends said 'I'm playing local footy, you should come try out', and I was like, why not?

"I had one footy session and absolutely loved it."

What followed was a rapid rise through the ranks.

After just one season at Glenelg, Gould earned SANFLW Team of the Year honours in the ruck before being drafted by Adelaide.

She then featured in the Crows' 2022 Grand Final win in the ruck, before making the switch to the forward line in 2023.

"I literally had only played a year of proper footy before I got drafted," Gould said.

"It was crazy. I was thinking to myself 'How have I only just had one year of footy before I got drafted?'

"Not many people are lucky enough to get that opportunity now.

"The pathway young girls have now, they can start playing from age five if they want. I wish that I was able to have got that as well, but it's cool now that those girls get the chance to do so."

Gould's latest milestone comes after overcoming a frustrating injury setback last year - a wrist injury in Round Five last year sidelined the 27-year-old for five weeks.

"That was probably one injury that was hard to come by just because marking is my strength as a footy player," Gould said.

"Hannah Munyard, she had a bone injury at the start of the season as well.

"To navigate through that was tough, but also it was nice to be able to get through that with her as well."
