As an accredited dietitian, Georgia Bevan knows exactly what foods fuel her for games.

In the latest BHP Down to Earth video, the 24-year-old details how her profession has helped her football.

“I’m able to have a little more freedom with things like my meal plan, and have a bit more reasoning as to why exactly we are eating what we are eating and doing the training and what we are doing specifically,” Bevan said.

Bevan has a number of roles within the dietetics industry in South Australia.

The midfielder works in corporate health for Corporate Bodies International, where she does tailored health and wellbeing programs for companies.

She also recently started private practice work with Adelaide Health Professionals, where she works with people who are suffering chronic disease, like diabetes, stroke, IBS or gastrointestinal issues, as well as covering performance nutrition.

“My job is to either clinically manage their disease state with nutrition and help get them better,” Bevan said.

“It’s also helping them to make the most from their choices in nutrition to get the most out of their life.”

The variety of the work is what Bevan loves most about her job.

“What I love with the corporate health job is that every week is different, so I can be doing cooking demos, seminars, workshops, or running challenges,” she said.

“In private practice, it’s more being able to work one on one, so being able to actually help the clients and then see a positive change over the course of a couple of weeks.”

“Being a dietician who is an athlete, I am able to give that inside view and empathise and resonate with them a little bit easier.”

Bevan, who has played every game with the Crows since the AFLW started, said that given how much she loves health and fitness, being part of the AFLW is perfect for her.

“Whether I was playing AFLW or not, I’d probably be fitting in my gym work and fitness because I love it,” Bevan said.

“It’s great that I am able to actually work and have it as a paid job, which is fantastic, and I’m really lucky that outside of football I have something that I am super passionate about.”

The BHP Down to Earth videos will be released during the 2018 AFLW season on the AFC website, social channels and app, to give fans greater insight into the lives of Crows AFLW players.

BHP – through its South Australian Olympic Dam operation – is a co-major partner for the Crows AFLW team for the 2018, 2019 and 2020 AFLW seasons.
