Adelaide co-captain Rory Sloane has detailed how he spent 14 minutes of the second quarter against Fremantle on the bench.

Sloane told Triple M’s The Rush Hour he was left stranded on the bench 12 minutes into the quarter and managed just one more minute before half-time.

“I had to come off, rotate, then after that, the ball was on the other side of the ground,” Sloane said, adding stoppages also prevented his return.

“I spent 14 minutes off the ground, then one minute on.

“(I went) heading into half-time feeling cherry.”

But what exactly does an AFL player do when they’re on the bench for so long?

“I had a couple of strides, watched the game, had a little chat to Pykey,” Sloane said.

“I had a sit for a bit but then I’m like ‘I’ve got to get moving here, I’m starting to stiffen up'."

Although the 29-year-old was taking note of the side’s stoppage work, he said the rest of the game he viewed as a spectator.

“General play I just get sucked in and watch,” Sloane said.

Post-game, the midfielder managed to grab Fremantle star Nat Fyfe for a quick chat.

“I spoke to Fyfe after the game and he said it was finals-like pressure,” he said.

“I think both teams enjoyed it, you won’t always score 100 points but we got the win.”
