Adelaide defender Tom Doedee has returned to group training for the first time since rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in March.

The 22-year-old defender missed the entire 2019 season due to the injury, except for the first quarter of Round One against Hawthorn.

On Thursday, Doedee was actively involved in several drills which involved kicking and handballing.

The former Rising Star runner-up looked comfortable on his feet as he took part in training among Adelaide’s second-to-fourth-year players.

Doedee told AFC Media after the session that he was just glad to be back with his teammates.

“I’m feeling really good,” Doedee said.

“The knee is feeling good, the body is feeling fit… it’s just nice to do something different and get involved with the kicking drills.

“It was good to be out there and have a run with the boys.”

Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks said Doedee was aiming for a Round One return in 2020.

“Tommy was out there today, he’s moving really well,” Nicks said.

“They’ll make sure he’s cherry before they throw him into too many agility drills.

“There’s a certain process you need to go through... (but) he’s looking fit and raring to go.”
