A former Crow, an Australian netballer, and a TV personality form part of the line-up set to take an icy plunge during the Crows’ SA Freeze event at Adelaide Oval on Thursday night.
Adelaide can reveal its ‘dunkees’ will be former AFL footballer and current radio host Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald, Australian Diamonds squad member and Adelaide Thunderbird Matilda Garrett, 7News Adelaide presenter Mark ‘Soda’ Soderstrom, cricket broadcaster and writer Bharat Sundaresan, and SA Health Minister Blair Boyer.
The five will look to ‘beat the chill on the hill’ by being dunked with icy cold water on Adelaide Oval’s iconic hill during the Crows’ Round 13 clash against Geelong.
The event’s aim is to help raise funds and awareness for motor neurone disease (MND).
Garrett, who had spent time on Collingwood’s Australian Netball League team, said she was proud to be involved because the cause was close to her heart.
“When I played for Collingwood I had the opportunity to meet Neale who was very impressive and it is something that I hold close to me,” Garrett said.
“I have had family members who have passed away from MND which was awful so I think it’s an amazing cause and I’m so grateful that I get to be part of it on Thursday night.”
The unveiling of the dunkees comes after the Club announced it would be continuing the late Neale Daniher’s fight against MND by hosting the third SA Freeze event.
Daniher, a former AFL footballer, coach and Australian of the Year, fought a gallant battle against MND since his diagnosis in 2013, before passing away last week.
Crows fans are encouraged to help raise vital funds for MND research and care initiatives by purchasing a Big Freeze 12 Beanie.
They will be available to buy from the South and East gates at Adelaide Oval on the night, as well as at the Adelaide Railway Station tunnel.
Beanies can also be purchased online here and donations via a digital beanie can be made here.
The SA Freeze will kick-start a big weekend for FightMND – an organisation working to raise awareness and fund research into MND – and it culminates with the 12th Big Freeze, to be hosted before the Melbourne v Collingwood clash at the MCG on the King’s Birthday Monday.
Adelaide faces Geelong at Adelaide Oval on Thursday, June 4, at 7pm.
