Two-time Club Champion Scott Thompson has been inducted into Adelaide Football Club’s Hall of Fame.

Thompson was one of Adelaide’s most consistent midfielders for more than a decade and throughout his 13 seasons with the Crows, finished inside the top 10 Club Champion votes on 10 occasions.

He won consecutive Malcolm Blight Medals in 2011-12 after being runner-up in 2010, came third twice, and finished in the top seven in eight consecutive seasons. He also won the club’s State League Club Champion award in 2017, his final season.

Thompson was named in the All-Australian squad of 40 in 2011 and then selected as a midfielder in 2012, when he finished equal-fourth in the Brownlow Medal with 25 votes.

Former Crows captain Nathan van Berlo said he was amazed by Thompson’s success in the demanding role as an inside midfielder.

“He had a huge impact on the field, as well as off it,” van Berlo said.

“He was just a picture of consistency… he was unwavering in his ability to win the contest, week in, week out. I don’t know how he did it.

“He was clean around the contests, an elite decision-maker. His ability to win the ball was uncanny but it was through a really smart method. He was always there for you as a team-mate.”

Thompson represented Australia in the 2008 International Rules Series and joined the 300-game club in 2016, becoming the fifth South Australian-produced footballer to reach the milestone while predominantly playing for an SA-based AFL club.

Upon his retirement in 2017 he was the Club record holder in disposals, tackles, clearances and contested possessions.

He was a key figure at the Club in the period after the death of coach Phil Walsh in July, 2015, and it was no surprise when he won the one-off Phillip Walsh Medal as best afield in the Showdown later in the month.
