Thebarton Oval holds some significant memories for Adelaide forward Izak Rankine, something which has propelled him to ensure his family name will have a physical presence there.
Rankine has pledged three pickets at the Club’s new world-class headquarters at Thebarton, gifting two to his parents.
“I grew up around there, Mile End, and used to go down to the skate park and the oval and kick the footy, obviously I played state footy on there as well, and just being around that area growing up holds lots of memories,” Rankine said.
“Mum was nagging me for a bit to get her name on there (Thebarton), so I bought a (picket) for mum and dad, who are very excited.
“I thought it was a great way to be a part of history; it's a pretty special thing.”
Adelaide supporters can join Rankine and take their place at the Club’s new home by pledging a picket to the Thebarton Oval Precinct.
Fans can donate to have their name or message etched into a plaque affixed to the pickets around the boundary of the facility’s main oval.
The donation of a picket is $500 and is tax-deductable via the Australian Sports Foundation.
The $105 million development continues to take shape with the main administration building nearing completion.
Adelaide’s AFL, AFLW and SANFL teams will train at Thebarton, which will also be the Club’s home ground for AFLW matches.
The facility includes construction of a function centre, café, members’ lounge and interactive displays showcasing the Club’s history.
“I'm very excited to get over there. The boys can't stop talking about it. I've driven past a couple times, and it's gone up pretty quick, so that's exciting,” Rankine said.
“It's going to be state-of-the-art. Fans can come in as well and watch us train, it's going to drive us.”
