Adelaide players Josh Rachele and Charlie Edwards have helped put smiles on the faces of children at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, handing out teddy bears donated through Club partner Variety – the Children’s Charity.

The pair visited young patients earlier this week, meeting families and delivering the cuddly teddy bears that were purchased by generous guests at the recent 2026 Variety SA Gala.

Among the children they met was 10-year-old Hunter, a passionate Crows supporter, who has spent much of the year in and out of hospital while undergoing treatment for a rare bowel condition.

Hunter has endured more than 40 surgeries, with the latest occurring last Friday. The visit provided a welcome lift for the young fan, who enjoyed spending time with Rachele and Edwards and receiving a special teddy bear.

Rachele said it was a privilege to spend time with the children and their families.

"Seeing the strength and resilience these kids show every day is inspiring,” he said.

“We’re grateful to be able to bring a few smiles and spend some time with them.”

Variety SA Chief Executive Officer Mark McGill said the initiative was a simple but meaningful way to bring comfort and joy to young patients.

"These teddy bears are a wonderful reminder that the community is thinking of these children and their families. We thank everyone who supported the Variety Gala and made this donation possible,” he said.

Variety SA supports South Australian kids and families who are facing challenges through sickness, disadvantage or living with disability.

The Showdown partnership, which has been in place since 2018, supports the work of Variety as well as positively impacting the Crows’ community programs.
