Adelaide midfielder Sam Berry has heaped praise on ruckman Lachlan McAndrew for the on-ball brigade’s resurgence against West Coast on Friday night.

The Crows’ midfield bounced back from a disappointing display the week prior in the Showdown, to beat the Eagles in the centre clearances 18-8.

Adelaide’s centre bounce dominance helped the team return to the winners’ list with a 25-point win against the Eagles.

Speaking to the media on Monday, Berry said McAndrew, who also won the ruck battle with 49 hit-outs to 27, was instrumental in driving the Crows' response.

“It's never easy going over Perth, so any win over there, we will absolutely take,” Berry said.

“He's (McAndrew) been massive this week. He set the tone for us, the big fell, he was unbelievable.

“It was good, and especially at the centre bounce, West Coast is a very good centre bounce team, so I think to get it done in there was massive.”

Berry, who is in career-best form, also shone in the west, with 20 disposals, five clearances, 12 pressure acts, and six tackles.

Across 17 games this season, he has averaged 22.4 disposals, 5.1 clearances and 7.6 tackles a game.

The 24-year-old hit a trigger in his playing contract earlier this year, which extended his deal with the Club until the end of 2027.

Berry said he had focused on improving his mental toughness this year and that had a flow-on effect with his footy.

“I probably said it recently, but confidence was a big thing for me, and something that I probably struggled with a little bit… I definitely think I'm a different player to what I was 9, 10, months ago, whatever that was,” Berry said.

“From a mental performance point, just in games having ways to not dwell on mistakes, and just moving on.

“I think that's probably what all good players are able to do, so it’s been about building in that area.

“I think0 that i00t was more after mistakes, or instances in games where I don't lose confidence, so it's just about maintaining it.”

Adelaide is now preparing for a Round 18 clash against Gold Coast at Adelaide Oval this Saturday night.

The Suns are coming off a one-goal loss against Collingwood and would be fired up to make amends, but Berry said the Crows would be focused on their own game rather than Gold Coast’s motivation.

“Our focus will just be on the game and winning the game, and not buying into that,” Berry said.

The Crows face the Suns at Adelaide Oval on Saturday at 7.40pm.
