The Collingwood fandom of Taylor Walker’s son Louis has been well documented across the past 12 months - the five-year-old is obsessed with Magpies star Nick Daicos.
But as his beloved Pies prepare to take on his Dad’s Crows at Adelaide Oval this Thursday night, it can be revealed Louis is attempting to convert more of the Walker clan to the black and white.
Speaking to Roo, Ditts and Loz on Triple M Adelaide, Walker said it was always a fun week in his household when the Pies came to town.
“He (Louis) is very excited. Hugo and I have certainly been stirring him up, but he’s looking forward to going on Thursday night,” Walker said.
“He actually said to Ellie ‘Mum can you wear black and white stuff with me?’
“He’s trying to drag a few other people down with him.”
Walker will be eyeing a return to the Crows team for the Thursday night blockbuster, after being managed for last week’s trip to Sydney.
The 36-year-old said he was raring and ready to go against a Collingwood team fresh off five consecutive wins.
“I’m ready, if the chance comes. I’m looking forward to it, it’s going to be an absolute cracker on Thursday night,” Walker said.
“We get to play prime-time again against a team that’s playing some really good footy, so I'm looking forward to playing against Collingwood.
“They’ve won five in a row, so we are going to have to try and stop the little master (Nick Daicos). Their offense is pretty good so we’ll have to be switched on to stop that.
“We had a good (training) session yesterday, we’ll have a little run around tomorrow before Thursday, the boys are in great spirits and excited by the opportunity the Pies present.”
Adelaide will also enter the match in a good patch of form, having won six of its past seven matches to be sitting in fifth spot on the ladder.
A key part of the Crows’ recent success has been the improvement of its young players, with Walker singling out the work of rising utility Luke Nankervis.
“He’s (Nankervis) a great kid,” Walker said.
“I reckon a few weeks ago the Club put up a photo of the class of 2021, and it was him, Zac Taylor, Soli and Rash, and remember that big Jedi rats’ tail he had?
“He was skinny as he had spaghetti little arms, and as much as they haven’t got too much bigger, but he’s taken his game to another level, and is becoming a really consistent AFL footballer.”
Adelaide takes on Collingwood this Thursday night, with the match to begin at 7pm (ACST).
