Adelaide had its final hit out at on Sunday before the start of AFLW season, winning a three-quarter match simulation against Port Adelaide.
In windy conditions at West Lakes, the Crows kicked more truly, booting eight goals to the Power’s three across three stanzas, before the game was called with a handshake.
Grace Egan and Caitlin Gould each kicked two goals, with singles to Juliet Kelly, Hannah Ewings, Alicia Blizard and Christina Leuzzi.
Both the Crows and Power had significant 'outs' for the match.
Adelaide was missing five players who had lined in the historic Australia v Ireland representative game the night before in Captain Ebony Marinoff and Chelsea Biddell who represented Australia, and Niamh Kelly, Amy Boyle-Carr and Kayleigh Cronin who represented Ireland.
The Crows dominated the midfield, with Sarah Goodwin, Teah Charlton and Juliet Kelly combining nicely, while the likes of young draftees Ava Stewart and Liv Gorman were showing strong signs in the backlines.
Senior Coach Ryan Davis described his side’s fourth practice match of pre-season as a “very strong hit out”.
“I really like our ability to flick between handball chain offence and kick-mark, to give us multiple looks at moving the football,” Davis said.
“The midfield was quite strong to get the ball going our way quite early and then our defensive shape; to be able to lock the ball in our front half was also very good.”
Newcomer Jemmika Douglas donned the Club’s tricolours for the first time after filling Adelaide's final list spot last week, left vacant by retiring Chelsea Randall.
Davis said he was impressed with the 20-year-old VFLW product’s game playing off the half-back flank.
“Having a number of our experienced players out of our side meant we were able to expose our younger players to big minutes,” he said.
“It was extremely beneficial us.
“What this gives us is selection integrity leading into Round One.
“We have been able to see how well our new players are performing in their roles and they’re really pushing the group forward.”
Adelaide opens its 2026 AFLW campaign on Sunday, August 16, when it takes on Sydney in Round One at Unley Oval at 12.05pm.
