Adelaide midfielder Izak Rankine says he never lost belief that his best football would come, trusting his hard work would eventually be rewarded.

The 26-year old recorded a career-best return in the Crows’ win against Richmond last week, amassing 36 disposals, 11 clearances, 795 metres gained, and a goal.

That surpassed his previous career-high - which he recorded during Round Nine against the Tigers earlier this year - of 33 disposals, 10 marks, and nine tackles.

Speaking on the Club’s post-game show, Crows Live, Rankine said he had remained focused on his preparation throughout the season, with his career-best outing against Richmond a reward for that persistence.

"I've been building for the last few weeks,” Rankine said.

“My year didn't start the way I wanted it, but I just put my head down and I knew it would come at some stage.” 

Rankine reflected on Adelaide's hard-fought victory against Richmond, and reflected on how the Crows turned things around after staring down a 13-point deficit midway through the third quarter.

 "There were a few momentum swings, we wanted to explode and open the ground up and use the ball a bit more,” Rankine said. 

"We were sort of told to pull our heads in and stop mucking around with the footy, we were over-handballing at one point there. 

"(But) we walked away with the four points, so we're happy.”

The Crows have now turned their attention to a blockbuster clash against ladder-leaders Fremantle in Perth on Friday night.

Rankine said the team was looking forward to the challenge. 

“It’s going to be a good challenge for us, they're sitting on top of the ladder at the moment,” Rankine said

"The last few times we have gone over there, we haven't performed the way we wanted to. 

"Hopefully we can rest tonight, and we look forward to going over there.”

The Crows face the Dockers on Friday at 7.40pm (ACST), with the game to be broadcast live on Channel 7 Adelaide, Fox Footy and Kayo.
