When three-time Premiership Crow Sarah Allan was five years old, she ran around telling anyone who would listen she was going to be a footballer.

The only problem? At the time, it wasn't possible.

Fast forward to this weekend and the defender will become just the third Crow to reach 100 AFLW games when she runs out against Geelong at Unley Oval.

It's a milestone that has prompted plenty of reflection for Allan, whose journey has mirrored the rapid growth of women's football.

"I used to run around saying 'I'm going to be a footballer', and it wasn't a possibility," Allan said on the Club’s Winging It podcast.

"I think I probably need to take some advice from my five-year-old self and just sort of keep pushing for stuff that's not possible and believing in your dreams.

"I need to just remind myself about that confidence I had as a five-year-old."

As she prepares to reach the century mark, Allan says it has also made her look back on how far the AFLW has come.

"When you come up to these milestones, you probably just start reflecting on your journey so far," Allan said.

"I think especially as a women's player, you probably actually reflect on it a bit more, the feeling that it wasn't actually a possibility, and so now it's like it's crazy."

When asked to rank the highlights from her decorated career, Allan's answer came easily.

The 27-year-old rates Adelaide's 2022 premiership as her favourite football memory.

And an iconic photo of her with the ball when the siren went features on a commemorative 100-game t-shirt teammates will wear during the warm-up this weekend.

"It was great to get the win in 2019 in front of 53,000 people, but 2022 was through COVID, and we had to sacrifice a lot," Allan said.

"We had to sacrifice a lot for that season, we just had to win, and we did."

Away from football, Allan revealed she would have happily pursued a career as a travel agent if she wasn’t playing footy.

"I love booking travel, I actually think I sometimes prefer booking the holiday," the Mount Gambier product said.

"I like going away, but I love booking the holiday part and hearing about other people's holidays, I get excited."

Allan also admitted to being a devoted Gilmore Girls fan, regularly rewatching the series and even visiting the show's famous Stars Hollow set during a trip to the United States last year.

"Gilmore Girls is a pretty special show for me. I watch it every year," she said.

"I got to walk through Stars Hollow, which was pretty cool. IIf you've watched the show, it's a pretty special town, and I got to also meet Luke from the show.”

But while 100 games looms large, there is still one achievement Allan would love to tick off - she has played 99 games without kicking a goal.

"I've gone 99 games without a goal," Allan laughed.

"I think it's a record, it's the record no one wants, and funny enough, I actually got drafted as a forward.

"Everyone always asks me why I have so many shots on goal (pre-game), and it's more for the love of the game and the fun of it.”

If game No.100 happens to bring a long-awaited first AFLW major, it could prove the perfect way to celebrate a remarkable milestone.
