As the 2026 Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period heads toward its conclusion, Adelaide General Manager List Manager Jarryd Roughead joined Trade Radio to give an update on where things sat for the Club.

From impending trades, to contract extensions, here is a snapshot of what Roughead had to say.

An update on Nick Murray

Roughead reiterated it would be “hard to entertain” a deal for contracted defender Nick Murray to depart for North Melbourne.

The List Manager gave a brief insight into dealings with the Kangaroos, and was adamant on the Club’s stance in regard to any potential trade.

“Nothing has progressed, as I said on Monday when I did the press conference, we've been pretty adamant that it's going to be pretty hard for us to entertain something like this,” Roughead said.

“I think we've been pretty upfront that for us to entertain this, it's more unlikely than likely.”

The Luke Pedlar deal

Adelaide will continue to speak with crosstown rival Port Adelaide as it attempts to facilitate a move to send out of contract forward Luke Pedlar to Alberton Oval.

Roughead said he expected talks to ramp up over the coming days, with Port Adelaide being caught up in other deals throughout this week.

“We've chatted with Crippa (Jason Cripps, Port Adelaide List Manager) and understand that he's obviously been quite busy with some of the other things that he's got going on,” Roughead said.

“Now that some things have started to drop, we may talk over the next couple of days. He was pretty upfront with us that this was something he'd like to pick up next week. So we'll do that.”

Izak Rankine’s contract extension

The Club announced at last Friday night’s Malcolm Blight Medal event that star midfielder Izak Rankine had signed on for another five years.

Roughead said it was exciting to receive a long-term commitment from the 26-year-old, and praised how he developed his game throughout the season.

“Full credit to Izak, he's one that really took his game to the next level this year with being able to go into that midfield full time,” Roughead said.

“You would say, arguably, he was one of the top five players in the competition (in the back half of the season), so being able to secure someone like that for the long term just shows that he's got faith in us, and obviously we've got enormous faith in him.”

Young players ready to go to the next level

Adelaide is confident in the potential improvement of a host of the young players on its list as it embarks on the 2027 season.

Roughead said the Club was excited by the talent it possessed and highlighted some players he felt could take their game to another level next season.

“(Indy Cotton) is someone that hasn't played footy since he was 16 years old, and then comes back and played almost 20 games in the SANFL in his first year back - it's quite impressive what he's been able to do,” Roughead said.

“We had a number of boys that debuted this year. When you think about Ludowyke, Oscar Ryan and Charlie Edwards, and even Billy Downing, who got some more games.

“Unfortunately we didn't get to see Sid Draper, so these guys, having another pre-season and putting the pressure on the boys that are in, it's only going to help.

“It's only going to help them drive standards and put pressure on these boys that hopefully they can take their spot and improve.”

An eye on the draft

Adelaide currently holds its first round selection (Pick No.13), and two second round selections (Picks No.32 and 33) ahead of next month’s Telstra AFL Draft.

Roughead said the Club was excited by this year’s crop of potential draft picks, and would look at options to strengthen its hand.

“From our view, I think you're going to get someone really, really good (in the first round of the draft)," Roughead said.

“There's the boys at the top, and then I think from you know almost pick six, seven onwards, there's a number of players that would be in that six to 20 range, and even you know deeper again.

“Hopefully we can try and get as high as we can in with other assets that we have, and hopefully we can bring in a couple of kids around that mark, and really look to improve our list before Tasmania comes in.

“We're sitting here trying to come up with different scenarios where we think it could benefit both us and other teams. So we'll try, but that doesn't mean that we'll get things done.”
