Adelaide utility Rory Atkins has revealed he once played a game of footy with AFL legend Wayne Carey.

During his junior career in Melbourne, Atkins lined up alongside Carey in a game for the Maribyrnong Park Lions in August, 2011.

“He (Carey) kicked a nice dribble goal and the ground erupted,” Atkins recalled on The Crows Show, brought to you by Optus.

“But he managed to tweak his calf half way through the second.

“The fans realised he wasn’t coming back on, so he runs back out to half-time and everyone had gone.

“At least I can say I played one game with the duck.”

TEAM NEWS: Crows name three changes

Before joining the Crows in the 2012 National Draft, Atkins won the best and fairest for the Victorian Calder Cannons Football Club in the TAC Cup - an honour he shares with Adelaide veteran Richard Douglas.

“I was able to play a few more games than some of the other boys so managed to wrap up the best and fairest,” Atkins said.

“Richard Douglas had won it prior as well, so it was an honour and a privilege to win it for the Cannons.”
