Crows forward Mitch McGovern nearly reached the Adelaide Oval roof on Saturday night when he took a Mark of the Year contender in the third quarter of Adelaide’s 55-point win against Carlton.

Funnily enough, McGovern already had an idea of what the view was like from up there, with the 23-year-old taking part in the Adelaide Oval RoofClimb just a few days prior.

McGovern is one of a number of Crows players, including Taylor Walker, Tom Lynch and Ebony Marinoff, who have done the Adelaide Oval RoofClimb – a two-hour climb adventure which takes in the impressive vistas of the stadium and beyond.

“Unreal experience today doing the RoofClimb. Couldn’t recommend it enough,” McGovern said on social media after the climb.

Crows CEO Andrew Fagan and his wife Alana were two of the first people to experience the recently launched RoofClimb Night, which allows climbers to watch the city come to life as they make their way across Adelaide Oval’s roofline after dark.

The day, twilight and night RoofClimb experiences see participants travel along the impressive curved roofline of the Western Stand before navigating a link bridge to the Riverbank Stand.

Climbers are then led to an open viewing deck overlooking the goal square where they can test their nerve with a lean out point 50 metres above the ground.

Crows fans can also catch all of the on-field action of a home game from the viewing deck seats. The unique climb ensures participants can experience a Crows game like never before as they feel the roar of the crowd while enjoying a bird’s eye view of the action.

Each climb is led by a specially trained climb leader who ensures each group member has an enjoyable and safe experience. Their commentary on the history of the city of Adelaide and the Oval along the way ensures each climber leaves a little bit wiser.
