Chayce Jones has claimed back-to-back victories in Adelaide's 2km time trial, securing a personal best time in Saturday's race.

The 19-year-old, who also won the first trial of the 2020 pre-season last November, took the lead early and powered home for his second win.

He crossed the line ahead of rookie recruit Ben Keays and fellow 2018 draftee Ned McHenry who also secured podium finishes.

Wingman Rory Atkins finished fourth, ahead of veteran David Mackay in fifth.

Ben Crocker, another off-season addition, impressed with a sixth-place finish while captain Rory Sloane ran a career-best time to place seventh.

Lachlan Sholl, another draftee from the class of 2018, highlighted his development in his third race at the Club, powering home to take eighth.

DEFENDING CHAMP: Chayce sets the pace in November time trial

Post-race, Jones told AFC Media winning the time trial was a great way to kick off 2020 and to test the healthy competition between himself and McHenry.

"It's always tough coming back after a bit of a break, so running a good time is really good," Jones said.

"It's always good fun, (the competitiveness) is not really there when you're talking to him (McHenry) but it's always there in general - you always want to win."

Jones was impressed by the efforts of former Brisbane Lion Keays, who was hot on the teenager's tail right to the end.

"He's definitely a good athlete so to see him come second at a new Club is a real credit to him," Jones said.

"It's just good to be back, all the boys are ready to get stuck in and get more match sim as we get closer to games."
