Adelaide defender Luke Brown has rued the loss to the Western Bulldogs - not for his 150th but for outgoing teammates Richard Douglas and Andy Otten.

On Thursday, Douglas announced 2019 would be his last season for the Crows after a lengthy 246-game career in SA.

It followed a similar announcement from Otten (109 games over 12 years) earlier in the week.

“It (the loss) is tough to stomach because it is Dougy (Richard Douglas) and Otto’s (Andy Otten) final time at the club,” Brown told AFC Media.

“Dougy and Otto are both real leaders of the footy club.

“I’ve always loved the way they go about it - Dougy is hard at it, you know what you’re going to get with him.

“And Otto, he’s just a leader back there… he’s calm, composed and has been a key figure for the young players in the SANFL.”

Adelaide was blitzed in the first quarter and trailed by as much as 40 before registering its first score - a Chayce Jones goal from a tight angle.

SMITH GOAL: Brodie kicks goal of the year contender

Brown conceded the Western Bulldogs’ strong start left the Club spinning, but he praised the fightback from his side.

“They got on top of us early,” Brown said.

“To the boys credit, we did fight it out to the end… (but) it was that start, they got a few easy goals through the transition and we were unable to win the contests.

“I thought Smithers (Brodie Smith) played really well today.

“We showed a lot of fight, but there’s lots of things to improve on for next year.”

Although a bitter-sweet day, Brown did have the chance to reflect on 150 games as a Crow.

“It’s good to get 150 games for the Adelaide Football Club,” Brown said.

“It’s something you don’t really think about when you start at the Club, you just want to play that first game and keep getting a game and helping the team.”
