Crows CEO Andrew Fagan made the following statement in response to the AFL’s announcement regarding the men’s and women’s seasons:

“Firstly, the health and safety of our players, coaches, staff, members, fans and community is always paramount, and this is reflected in all of our decision making, especially during times like these.

“We welcome the decision for AFL Round One matches to go ahead as scheduled and after months of hard work, our players are ready to take on Sydney on Saturday evening.

“We are obviously disappointed that our members and supporters will not be allowed entry to Adelaide Oval but we understand the serious nature of the challenge confronting all Australians in limiting the spread of the coronavirus.

“In times of uncertainty, we also understand the reasoning behind the decision to call off the AFLW minor round and progress straight to finals in a bid to enhance the chances of a premiership winner being determined. It unfortunately spells the end of the season for our women’s team and I would like to acknowledge the efforts of Senior Coach Matthew Clarke and his players.

“The impact of the coronavirus is far-reaching for many industries and like all clubs, we are continuing to work through a complex series of issues affecting our operations, and we appreciate the patience and understanding being shown by our members and fans.

“The Crows family is one of the most passionate and loyal supporter bases in Australian sport and I know that we will band together and emerge from this situation stronger than ever.”
