Adelaide Crows players today helped recovery efforts in flood-ravaged Queensland.
The entire Crows squad, staying on the Gold Coast for a training camp, travelled by bus to Ipswich and spent several hours working near the city.
Ipswich Council arranged for the players to help the army clear trees and debris from devastated Joseph Brady Park, one of the area’s most popular picnic spots.
The players also met a family of Crows supporters, who lost their home in the floods.
Ipswich, about 40km west of Brisbane on the Bremer River, was one of the hardest hit areas.
Crows captain Nathan van Berlo said the players had been keen to help and asked the Club to volunteer their services. They also asked that media were not invited to the visit.
“We wanted to contribute to the clean-up and actually do some work here and be useful,” he said. “We can’t believe some of the things we have seen.”
