Chris Knights and Hayden Skipworth were squeezed out of Adelaide’s team to take on Port Adelaide in Saturday night’s Showdown but both performed well with Woodville-West Torrens the next day at Thebarton Oval.
Knights picked up the club’s SANFL player of the week award after his 31 possession effort against the unbeaten Port Magpies. He also kicked two goals.
Crows development coach Alan Stewart said Knights was a steady ballwinner in each of the quarters and stood up in the final term when the Magpies surged into the lead. Skipworth faded late in the match but still had nearly 30 possessions and worked hard at the stoppages.
Scott Stevens starred for the Magpies, especially in the second half, and finished the game with 5.1.
Richard Douglas was again rated highly by Glenelg after a 24-possession effort. Most of his work was clean although he missed three of his four shots on goal.
Luke Jericho started well for West Adelaide and after copping a heavy knock continued to be okay on the way to 22 possessions.
Ruckman Jonathon Griffin, upgraded from the rookie list at the end of last year, played his first game of the season in the reserves for Central Districts. He won 37 tap-outs in a pleasing effort.
Norwood had the bye.
