South Australian football legend and passionate Crows supporter Bob Hank passed away this morning, five days short of his 89th birthday.
Regarded as one of SA’s greatest footballers, Hank was a dual Magarey Medallist and two-time All Australian who dominated at local and State level in the post-war era.
He played 224 games for West Torrens from 1944 to 1958, won two SANFL premierships (1945 and 1953), captained the club for nine seasons and won a club record nine best-and fairest awards.
He also represented SA 29 times (seven times as captain) and is a member of both the South Australian Football Hall of Fame and the Australian Football Hall of Fame.
Adelaide Football Club CEO Steven Trigg said Bob and his wife Audrey regularly attended Crows games at AAMI Stadium.
“They were at our last home game against Collingwood and have been great supporters for many years,” he said.
“Bob will be missed by all of us in the SA football community and we extend our deepest sympathies to Audrey and the Hank family.”
A memorial service will be held at AAMI Stadium next Thursday (June 21) at 2pm.
