Adelaide has secured GWS defender Lisa Whiteley and Pick 25 in a three-team trade that also included Melbourne.

The South Australian native, along with the Pick 25, have been dealt to the Crows in exchange for Picks 20 and 42.

In full, the trade went as follows:

  • GWS acquire Katherine Smith and Pick 29 from Melbourne, along with Pick 42 from Adelaide
  • Adelaide acquire Whiteley and Pick 25 from GWS
  • Melbourne acquire Pick 20 from Adelaide and Pick 39 from GWS

Whiteley returns home after two seasons in New South Wales.

The 27-year-old won a flag with South Adelaide in the 2018 SANFLW Grand Final before being selected by GWS with Pick 51 in the 2018 draft.

Crows General Manager of Football Administration Phil Harper said Whiteley would bring a wealth of experience to Adelaide’s defence.

“Lisa has been at GWS for two years and has been in excellent form in the SANFLW,” Harper said.

“We’ve seen her play in the past, she has improved a lot, she’s from Adelaide, and we like the way she goes about her Football .

“With Courtney Cramey leaving, the opportunity has arisen and she is a good fit .

“We’ve got great tall defenders  in Marijana Rajcic, Chelsea Randall and Sarah Allan, but Lisa gives us some cover & other  options .”

The AFLW trade period opened on Monday, August 3 and will finish at 2pm (AEST) on Wednesday, August 12.

Restricted free-agents can continue to move until 2pm (AEST) on Monday, August 17 and delisted free-agents have until 2pm (AEST) on Friday, August 21

The final AFLW draft order will be finalised shortly after.
