AFC Media has reviewed this year’s Champion Data player ranking points to identify the top contenders for Friday night’s Club Champion vote count.

1. Reilly O’Brien

17 games, 1800 total ranking points, 105.9 average ranking points

Ruckman Reilly O’Brien was Adelaide’s most consistent player in Season 2020, performing at the top-level week in, week out, which should see him accumulate votes throughout the night.

The 25-year-old was the only Crow to average over 100 ranking points across the first half of the year and only dipped below 80 on one occasion.

2. Rory Laird

17 games, 1784 total ranking points, 105.0 average ranking points

The transformation of Rory Laird from defender to bona fide midfielder should result in a flurry of votes in the back half of the year for the 2018 Club Champion. 

Laird averaged 120.7 ranking points in Rounds 10-18, with seven of his eight games netting 100+ points.

3. Matt Crouch

16 games, 1774 total ranking points, 110.9 average ranking points

Matt Crouch also enjoyed a stellar second half of Season 2020, topping the ranking points for four consecutive weeks in Rounds 12-16, influential in Adelaide breaking through for consecutive wins against Hawthorn and Greater Western Sydney.

Also in the mix

Brodie Smith (16 games, 81.5 average ranking points), Ben Keays (16 games, 81.1 average ranking points) and Luke Brown (17 games, 67.5 average ranking points) missed only two games between them and will attract votes.

Captain Rory Sloane (12 games, 87.7 average ranking points) and last year’s winner Brad Crouch (12 games, 83.5 average ranking points) both provided significant impact when on the park.

Tom Doedee (nine games, 85.7 average ranking points) missed almost half the season due to injury, but could surprise.
