Adelaide skipper Chelsea Randall has sung the praises of her former co-captain Erin Phillips.

On Friday, Randall was voted sole captain by her teammates following Phillips’ decision to step down after four years at the helm.

The 29-year-old key defender assured Phillips’ legacy would live on.

“She is just an incredibly natural leader, Erin,” Randall said.

“I’ve learnt so much from her and I’m so eager to continue her legacy with the leadership group we have.

“We wouldn’t be where we are today with the culture in Adelaide’s AFLW team (without Erin).”

The decision was also backed by Phillips, who predicted Randall’s selection well before the vote. 

On Sunday, Randall played her first game in over 400 days following an ACL rupture ahead of season 2020. 

“I felt like I was playing my first game of AFLW back in 2017,” she said.

“It was nice to have those nerves again… I brought the team in for a chat and forgot exactly what I was going to say.

“I’m in a good place personally, the team is fresh and the young ones coming through are really exciting.”

Adelaide defeated Greater Western Sydney by 20 points at Norwood Oval on Sunday with the skipper heaping praise on the younger Crows.

“Players like Maddi Newman, Chelsea Biddell… young exciting players like Teah Charlton,” Randall said.

“I remember kicking the ball into Teah and it was a bit of a pack mark.

“I thought ‘probably not the right decision Chels, why did you do that’... and up comes Teah and takes a massive grab.

“I think what we have here at the Crows, we get around each other and are excited for one another.”

The Crows are set to take on Melbourne on Saturday, January 30 in Round One.
