Adding an injury substitution to AFL match-day squads could impact the competition's younger players, Crows forward Taylor Walker has warned.

Speaking on Triple M’s Roo & Ditts, Walker was asked if he supported the new rule which includes a fifth person on the interchange reserved for injury substitutions.

Announced on Wednesday, the rule was given the green light just three days before the Crows’ game against Geelong at Adelaide Oval.

In a bid to prevent exploitation, the substitution can only be done if a player is declared medically unfit to continue by a Club doctor.

But the forward voiced his reservations on how the rule could affect the league’s younger players.

“You just hope that you’re not playing a kid two or three weeks in a row,” Walker said.

“Eventually, as a sub, he might not get a game.”

“But we’ll just wait and see how it goes.”

Despite the rule shake-up, Walker said the Crows side was raring to go for Saturday’s twilight clash.

“We’ll give it a good old shake… we had a great hitout on Saturday,” he said.

“We’re learning and going to give it a good crack against one of the teams giving it a shake for the final.

“We’re really excited to face them.”
