Adelaide captain Rory Sloane is ready to go for Showdown 49 after getting the all-clear from an eye specialist.

After Round Three, Sloane underwent surgery on a detached retina and has not played since.

On Saturday, he will return to the side for the first time in more than a month.

“A detached retina is pretty serious,” Sloane told The Optus Crows Show.

“That’s something I learnt pretty quickly, without getting the proper procedure and doing the recovery right, there could have been some real long term effects.

“That was the driving force for me, forget footy, your vision is for life.”

Stuck at home in the early days of recovery, Sloane admitted he went a bit stir crazy not being able to train.

“It’s crazy how much you miss exercise when you’re restricted to doing nothing,” Sloane said.

“Once I could get back and be a part of everything again (and) training started to ramp up… (that) was most enjoyable.”

Also on The Optus Crows Show this week, Brodie Smith puts James Rowe in the hot seat and Sam Berry talks his strong start to life in the AFL.

The Optus Crows Show airs on Channel 7 in Adelaide at 2.30pm on Saturday May 8 - ahead of the double-header Showdown clash.
