Adelaide’s non-selected players have impressed in a scratch match alongside Richmond and Geelong at Punt Road on Sunday.

The Crows took their full squad to Melbourne and, with the SANFL postponed on the weekend due to SA’s seven-day lockdown, sought a playing opportunity for the non-selected players.

Across four quarters, small forward James Rowe booted five goals, while Fischer McAsey and Lachlan Gollant kicked two majors each.

Tariek Newchurch, Brayden Cook and Kieran Strachan also hit the scoreboard, kicking a goal apiece.

Gollant’s time was split between the wing and forward, McAsey was played as a key forward, while Newchurch and Cook were also used on the wing.

SANFL and Development Coach Michael Godden said he was impressed with Rowe’s attitude and pleased to see him dominate on the scoreboard.

“(Rowe) had played every AFL game this year, so to come back, it’s always a challenge,” Godden said.

“It was nice for him to kick a good haul of five and he looked dangerous and he was sharp with the ball, so it was a good day out for James.”

Godden said Cook and Strachan were also standouts.

“Really happy with Cooky, he’s come into the Club with a lot to learn and he’s just taking everything on board and improving every week,” Godden said.

“The most impressive thing is his speed in his game, the ability for him to get up and down the ground with genuine speed and that’s something we’ve been wanting from him.

“It was a good reward for the hard work he’s been putting in.

“Kieran Strachan had some limited minutes in the ruck yesterday but what he did was really good.

“He also kicked a really nice goal late in the game so that was really good for him.”
