SEDA College student Alana Lishmund says work experience at the Adelaide Football Club is an experience like no other.

SEDA College is the leader of hands-on education for SACE students, partnering with peak industry organisations to provide students unique opportunities and experiences specific to their interests.

The partnership’s aim is to develop key employability and life skills for a successful future.

Lishmund spends one day a week at West Lakes assisting Adelaide’s Community team in addition to her classroom and clinic work with SEDA College and has found the experience with the Club to be more diverse than expected.

“When I went to the SEDA info night, it sounded too good to be true but it fits me perfectly,” Lishmund said.

“We spend time in the office calling schools, answering emails and packing gift bags, and we also get to go out to running clinics and be involved with projects.

“I had never worked in an office, so learning what to say and making sure we have the answers to questions has been hard and something I had never thought about.”

The talented young footballer has also had an opportunity to work alongside Adelaide’s SEDA program manager, Crows AFLW defender Sarah Allan.

“I play (SANFLW) with Norwood and Sarah has taught me a lot about how to balance by life,” Lishmund said.

“She plays footy and has to manage her job around that, and I can see she is very professional in everything she is doing.

“She takes a lot of time to talk to us and teach us what she knows.”

The Year 12 student said the highlight of her work experience was the first-hand knowledge she gained about how an AFL Club worked.

“To be representing the Crows while completing your work and getting your ATAR, it is amazing,” Lishmund said.

“The general public can’t really come into the heart of the Club, and we are given a lot of responsibility and trust to go into different areas.

“We get to go to watch the team train, and the players are around a lot so we get to see them every time we are there.

“If you love coaching and wanted to be in a different environment which gives you opportunities, I’d encourage you to think about studying with SEDA.”
