Adelaide’s SANFL team has a new look leadership group in 2018, featuring six players who will rotate as captain.

AFL listed players Tom Doedee, Alex Keath, Cam Ellis-Yolmen, Reilly O’Brien and Paul Hunter have been included in the group alongside development squad member Damon Hill, who is in his third year in the squad.

The group will rotate as captain every week, depending on AFL selection.

State League coach Ryan O’Keefe said this group was selected by the coaching panel with the aim of developing more leaders amongst the Club.

“Our situation is unique in terms of other sides, we are developing players and our team changes a lot, so to have a group helps spread the load when some guys are playing AFL,” O’Keefe said.

“We want to develop their leadership skills and work on that throughout the year, and this is the perfect platform to grow those skills.

“We want to develop them not just as players, but as leaders.”

Last year, Keath captained the team alongside Hugh Greenwood, before going on to play six AFL games in 2017.

Keath said he is pleased he’s been given another opportunity to lead the young group.

“I learnt a lot captaining last year, still being quite new to the game it is another chance to develop my skills,” Keath said.

“I’m really looking forward to leading alongside the four other AFL players, who have all improved their leadership over the offseason and have been providing a lot of direction on field.

“It’s great Damon Hill has been included, he’s contributed a lot these last few years and he’s going to be a real leader for the development squad out at training.”

Adelaide’s SANFL campaign will begin on Saturday, March 31 against Port Adelaide at Alberton Oval.
