Adelaide has suffered its first loss of the 2022 SANFL season, going down to Glenelg in a game of two halves by 15-points at ACH Group Stadium on Friday.

Thilthorpe three goal first term

Riley Thilthorpe was solid for the Crows, booting the first three goals of the game.

“(It was) another step forward for Riley, he is consistently presenting at the ball now and when the ball hits the ground he is as good as anyone,” Adelaide SANFL coach Michael Godden told AFC Media.

“It was nice to see him finish with a few goals and he is just going to keep adding layers to his game, so games like tonight against good opposition are invaluable to him.”

Thilthorpe ended the match with four majors.

Tigers' ten-goal dominance

Glenelg found itself 40 points down at the main break, with the Crows dominating the first half.

But Adelaide failed to bring that same pressure during the third quarter.

The hosts slammed on 10 unanswered goals to take a 20-point advantage at three-quarter time.

Tigers forward Liam McBean led the way for Glenelg in their come-back, kicking three of his four goals in the third quarter.

That third term proved costly for the Crows as they were unable to work their way back into the game.

Strachan dominates hit-outs

Ruckman Kieran Strachan continued his solid start to the season with another impressive game.

Strachan had 40 hit-outs along with 19 disposals and a goal.

“I thought Kieran was one of our best today,” Godden said.

“He gave our mids a good look at it and worked well around the ground.

“The key to him is he’s got to keep dominating games because if he can do that than his time will come.”

Worrell’s fight

Although Adelaide’s defence was under siege for most of the second half, Josh Worrell worked tirelessly and competed hard until the final siren.

“Like a lot of the backmen I thought they held up ok, the ball was coming in pretty hard in that third quarter so anyone can get into a bit of trouble in that space,” Godden said.

“Josh is another one of our young boys who hasn’t played much footy and to have those sorts of games is valuable, but he was solid today.

The Young Boys

There was plenty to like from two of Adelaide’s young emerging talents, with Patrick Parnell and Luke Nankervis showing promise.

Parnell was sharp off halfback, collecting 21 disposals to go along with three inside 50’s and six rebound 50’s

“He’s a good ball user, he came to us in the mid-season last year so his footy is just growing,” said Godden.

Nankervis also performed well, hitting the scoreboard with a goal, to go along with 14 disposals and four marks.

“Nankervis is just a young raw kid whose got talent, he can jump at the footy, works hard, makes a few errors but anyone would at this level, but he’s got a really good future,” Godden said.

The Crows will look to bounce back next week when they face Central Districts at X Convenience Oval on Saturday, with the game starting at 2:10pm.
