Adelaide Senior Coach Matthew Nicks is expecting Showdown LII to produce a ‘finals-like’ atmosphere, with both the Crows and Port Power set to fight hard for a win.

The Crows enter the clash off the back of three wins in a row and having claimed victory in Showdown LI, with new recruit Jordan Dawson kicking a goal after the siren to secure the result.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Nicks said the game still had plenty riding on it, despite neither team playing in the upcoming AFL finals series.

“I think the rivalry is fantastic,” Nicks said.

“We look forward to an unbelievable challenge. We are playing a side that’s hungry.

“When you come into a Showdown all bets are off, and we know that.

“Our guys have really been looking forward to it.

“It’s a great way to finish the season and the game will be played like a finals game.”

Nicks said the focus would be on halting the Power’s game plan.

“That’s going to be our challenge going forward, how do we get the game on our terms and not allow them to play their game,” Nicks said.

“We enjoy the contest, they’re a skillful side when given some time and space, so we’ll be doing whatever we can to not allow that game.

“At the same time, we’ll do whatever we can to really put it into a contest.”

Nicks said his side was also bracing for a fired up crowd, with Robbie Gray hanging up his boots.

“We’ve got a huge amount of respect for Robbie and what he’s done for the game of footy,” Nicks said.

“We talked about the stage it’s going to be, packed house, passion, we don’t want to come in and be blind sided, so we’ve gone through all that.

“There’s not much more to it now, the boys take over as of today and tomorrow and I am there to help when I can.

“We are aiming to win four in a row and continue the momentum heading into next year.”

Showdown LII kicks off at Adelaide Oval on Saturday, with the first bounce at 7pm.
