Adelaide utility Dan Curtin says he is recovering well after undergoing surgery on his knee last week.
Curtin dislocated his left kneecap during a pre-season training drill last Monday, and although he avoided any bone or ligament damage, the decision was made to proceed with surgery.
Speaking to AFC Media, Curtin said that while the setback was frustrating, undergoing surgery was the best option to help stabilise his knee and set him up for long-term success.
“I’m feeling good, my knee is feeling good,” Curtin said.
“I have taken a lot of positives out of it and (I’m) actually feeling alright, considering the circumstances, it’s actually a really good outcome.
“I have had a past of a few subluxations with my knee and obviously this one being the worst one, I think it was definitely necessary to get it (surgery) done.
“Thinking about the long-term goal and getting it out the way now so I can come back bigger and stronger.”
The 20-year-old had enjoyed a solid pre-season prior to injuring his knee, and had worked hard to become a more versatile footballer, with an aim of spending more time in the Crows’ midfield.
Now, however, the 20-year-old said his sole focus had turned to his rehab and ensuring he returns in strong shape.
“I definitely had a good building block this pre-season… potentially playing a few different roles,” Curtin said.
“I’ll just put that on hold for now, make sure I get my body right and get back so I can jump right back into that.
“I am taking it week-by-week, day-by-day, I don’t really know what I am doing next week, but I guess every Friday we will have meetings on what the goal for the next week is and I’ll run through that with the high performance team.”
And with the rehab process, he’s had his teammates’ support, saying that has helped keep his mind busy.
“At home, I’ve had Oscar Ryan, he’s my housemate and he’s been a real good nurse looking after me, and then I’ve had my girlfriend and my Mum come over - my girlfriend is over now for a few weeks,” the utility said.
“But in terms of the Club, everyone has been really good. I’ve had all the boys bring over choccies, and bring over a few other things, which has been really nice of them.
“I did just start a little Uni course which is keeping me a bit busy, but I’ve had Finnbar Maley coming over playing a bit of guitar with me, which is nice, and then playing a bit of PS5, just doing anything to keep the mind busy.”
