Adelaide’s all-time leading goalkicker Taylor Walker says rookie teammate Mitchell Marsh took his opportunity in the senior team in the Crows’ AAMI Community Series clash against Fremantle.

The 19-year-old was a late addition to the’ starting lineup in Mandurah, and showcased his talent, providing one of the highlights of the day in the form of a 60-metre goal.

Speaking to Roo, Ditts and Loz on Triple M Adelaide Breakfast, Walker was full of praise for the first round draft pick.

“It was a huge goal, the wind was certainly behind him but it was still a very impressive kick,” Walker said.

“I thought he was outstanding as well, he took his opportunity with Thilthorpe being out with a sore back, and he was great.

“He certainly put his best foot forward and showed everyone why we picked him so high in the draft.

“In terms of Round One, he’s definitely given himself a good chance and done everything right to stake his claim, it’s been great to have such a young talent come in and play their role within the group.”

Marsh was one of three uncapped players to feature against Fremantle, as the Crows put an inexperienced lineup on the park at Mandurah.

Walker said he felt the young Adelaide side equipped itself well against the Dockers, and got a lot out of the trip to Perth.

“I thought we gave ourselves a great chance to beat them, but we kicked quite inaccurately, which we all know in footy if you put scoreboard pressure on it certainly hurts you,” Walker said.

“Some young guys came in and played some good footy which was pleasing, Toby Murray was quite impressive, young Charlie (Edwards) had another look at it through the midfield and did some nice things.

“And I thought Stretch (Lachie McAndrew) was good again, coming up against a good opposition in Luke Jackson.

“It was a good little trip, and pre-season is now done which is great, and we can get cracking with the real stuff.”

Adelaide’s 2026 home and away season begins with a blockbuster Saturday night clash against Collingwood at the MCG on March 14.

Walker said the group was excited by the opportunity of facing the Pies in front of a near sell-out crowd.

“There’s certainly a lot of weight on Round One, and we’re looking forward to getting over there,” Walker said.

“Collingwood are a proud club, and we’ve always had great battles against them, so I just can’t wait to be part of what will be a massive occasion.

“They rested a few of their older guys on the weekend who I expect will definitely be there at the ‘G in a couple of weeks, while we’ll get a few back as well.

“So I’m thinking it will be an absolute cracker of a contest.”
