Adelaide defender Mark Keane says he is spending upwards of eight hours a day at the Club as he completes his rehabilitation from a fractured ankle.

Keane suffered the injury in a match simulation training session in January, after landing awkwardly in a marking contest with teammate Finnbar Maley.

Since undergoing surgery to repair his lower leg, the Irishman has been diligently working through his recovery program, putting in as much work as possible to ensure he returned fitter and stronger than before.

“Everyone’s been asking me ‘oh what are you doing with your spare time’, now that I’m not out there playing, but honestly I don’t actually have any spare time,” Keane said on last week’s episode of The Crows Show.

“I’m spending most of my time here at the Club working on my rehab, I’m probably doing about eight or nine hours a day just to do any little exercise I can.

“Every little minor detail matters when you rehab, and every percentage you can gain to build back strength and stuff like that is so important as you build up to returning to play.”

The defender is reaping the reward of his hard work in the gym, consistently ticking off goals in his recovery and recently completing his first run on the Alter G treadmill machine.

“I had my Alter G run which was a pretty crazy feeling to be honest, I’d never run on that machine before,” Keane said.

“Overall the recovery process is going nicely, I’ve got my first run outside coming up this week, so I’m very excited for that and to keep ticking off those boxes.

“I was just ready to get on the Alter G, but now I’m just ready to get off the Alter G and get onto grass.”

The Crows Show is into its 12th season, and airs weekly, with even more insider access.
