The closest Showdown on record, a near tackle milestone and a young Crow's clutch contribution. Here are the key numbers and historical notes from Adelaide’s Round Eight win over Port Adelaide.

A Showdown for the ages

Showdown 59 was the first South Australian derby to be decided by one point. Previously, Adelaide secured three-point wins in 2015 and 2018, while Port Adelaide won by four points in 2021 and 2013. Adelaide has now won six of the last seven Showdowns, for an overall record of 31-28. Since the move to Adelaide Oval in 2014, the Crows have won 15 of the 24 matches. The crowd of 53,045 was the fourth highest in Showdown history. The record is 53,698 at Adelaide Oval, in round three of the 2017 season.

Berry’s best-on-ground performance

Showdown medallist Sam Berry’s 19 tackles fell one short of the Club and V/AFL record held by Rory Laird. Berry’s previous high was 17, in the 2022 season when he also recorded a 14 tackle game and three games of 13. Berry also posted a career-high 704 metres gained from 29 disposals.

Young Crow’s assist sets up match-winning moment

Dan Curtin was the Crow who handballed to Brayden Cook for the match-winning goal. It was his third goal assist in his first AFL game back from knee surgery, after earlier setting up goals for Ben Keays. Josh Rachele had a game-high eight score involvements, Josh Worrell collected 12 intercepts and Keays clocked a team-high 15.6km and kicked three goals. Cook covered 15.2km before his stunning goal, equalled his career-high of 21 disposals and won four clearances.

First taste of Showdown footy for three new Crows

Three Crows - Lachlan McAndrew, Toby Murray and James Borlase - played their first AFL Showdown on Friday night. Murray had a memorable night, kicking his first two AFL goals with two goals in the space of two minutes in the third term. He also took a team-high nine marks in his third AFL game.

Walker’s night cut short as Showdown count nears record

Taylor Walker’s 26th Showdown ended early because of a hamstring strain. Andrew McLeod holds Adelaide’s record for Showdown appearances, with 27, six behind Port Adelaide’s former captain Travis Boak.
