Adelaide will be looking to continue its run of good form following the bye when it faces Port Adelaide in Showdown 60 at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night.
The Crows will also be eyeing another win against their crosstown rivals after beating them earlier this year by a point in Round Eight.
Adelaide Senior Coach Matthew Nicks spoke to the media on Friday and addressed the following topics.
Wayne Milera’s injured hamstring
Defender Wayne Milera will miss Showdown 60 due to a minor hamstring strain.
Milera, who had enjoyed a consistent run of strong form so far this season, reported tightness in his hamstring post-training on Wednesday and scans confirmed a minor strain.
Nicks was hopeful of Milera being fit to return for next week’s game against West Coast in Perth.
“There's enough there for us not to risk it (with Milera),” Nicks said.
“It was a really late decision yesterday, (we went) back and forth, and then in the end it was just common sense, no risk taken.
“Hopefully it will only be a week. Our next game is in Perth, so we'll have a look at that.”
Nicks on Cumming’s return
The Crows will regain Isaac Cumming, with the utility set to return after overcoming a hamstring injury sustained at training earlier this month.
Nicks said Cumming’s addition to the team would be an added boost, particularly given how versatile he was and the different positions he could play.
"Isaac's in a really good space,” Nicks said.
“He was one that last week we were contemplating getting a game into him, and this week he'll come straight back into AFL.
“He's great because he's got flexibility to play wing, to play half-back.
“The last game he played for us, he really had a strong impact at half-back, so expect to see him there at times.”
Form set aside for Showdown 60
The Crows lead the Showdown ledger against Port Adelaide with 31 wins to 28.
Adelaide also has a four-game winning streak, most recently claiming a 76-75 victory in Showdown 59 earlier this year.
Despite the Crows sitting in fifth place with 9-5 win-loss record and the Power in 15th (four wins, 10 losses), Nicks expected their crosstown rival to have its back against the wall and put up a fight.
“It hasn't necessarily been win-loss for them, and we've been in a similar position in previous years, where we've rated the way we play our footy, and we've been so close we just haven't quite got across the line,” Nicks said.
“Defensively, they're very strong. They've had their challenges too. I mean, none more than this week, with (Esava) Ratugolea going down, and you don't like to see that.
“They're playing a great brand of footy, and I know Josh (Carr) really well. I've coached with him along my journey, and he's a fantastic coach, and I think he's got on playing some great footy.
“We understand that the ladder means nothing, form means nothing when you come into a Showdown. They're battles, they're tight battles, more often than not. We hope that's not the case, we hope we can continue the form we're in and put out a performance that we're proud of, but we know it's going to be a really tough night.”
Crows ready to embrace ‘hostile’ crowd
Showdown 60 will be Port Adelaide’s ‘home’ game, with the Crows preparing for a hostile crowd.
Nicks said players enjoyed the atmosphere of playing in a Showdown at Adelaide Oval, no matter whose ‘home’ game it was.
“Our guys actually love it,” Nicks said.
“Our guys enjoy playing in front of that atmosphere, because it doesn't get much more hostile than the Port Adelaide fans, they enjoy that, but we look forward to that sort of stuff.”
Adelaide takes on Port Adelaide in Showdown 60 at Adelaide Oval on Saturday at 7.05pm.
The two clubs will face off in a SANFL Showdown at Adelaide at 3.10pm.
Both the SANFL and the AFL Showdown will be broadcast live on Channel 7 Adelaide.
